Skill Specialties
Investigation: Crime Scenes
Intimidation: Interrogations
Weaponry: Pistols
Prerequisites: --
Your character recalls events and details with pinpoint accuracy. You do not have to make rolls for your character to remember past experiences. When making Intelligence + Composure (or relevant Skill) rolls to recall minute facts from swaths of information, take a +2 bonus.
Prerequisites: Wits ••• or Composure •••
Your character has spent years in the field, catching tiny details and digging for secrets. She might not have a better chance at finding things, but she has a better chance of finding important things. Any time you make a Perception roll (usually Wits + Composure), you benefit from the 9-again quality. With the three-dot version, you get 8-again.
Prerequisites: Resolve •••
Your character possess an iron will. The powers of the supernatural have little bearing on her behavior. She can stand up to a vampire's mind control, a witch's charms, or a ghost's gifts of fright.
Any time a supernatural creature uses a power to influence your character's thoughts or emotions, add two dice to the dice pool to contest it. If the roll is resisted, instead subtract two dice from the monster's dice pool. Note that this only affects mental influence and manipulation from a supernatural origin. A vampire with a remarkable Manipulation + Persuasion score is just as likely to convince your character to do something using mundane tricks.
(Style)
Prerequisites: Brawl ••, Weaponry •
Your character is trained in restraint techniques, often used by law enforcement officers. This may reflect formal training, or lessons from a skilled practitioner.
• |
Compliance Hold |
Gain a +2 bonus to overpowering rolls to disarm or immobilize an opponent. |
•• |
Weapon Retention |
Opponents attempting to disarm your character or turn his weapon against him must exceed your character’s Weaponry score in successes. |
••• |
Speed Cuff |
Against an immobilized opponent, your character may apply handcuffs, cable ties, or similar restraints as a reflexive action. |
Prerequisites: --
Your character is skilled with an additional language, beyond her native tongue. Choose a language each time you buy this Merit. Your character can speak, read, and write in that language.
Note: First Tongue/Mother's Tongue is considered a native language to all Garou, even newly Firsted ones. Your grasp may need to improve through RP but your knowledge of it is instinctual and does not require this Merit.
Prerequisites: --
This Merit reflects your character’s disposable income. She might live in an upscale condo, but if her income is tied up in the mortgage and child support payments, she
might have little money to throw around. Characters are assumed to have basic necessities without Resources.
The dot rating determines the relative amount of disposable funding the character has available, depending on your particular chronicle’s setting. The same amount of money means completely different things in a game set in Silicon Valley compared to one set in the Detroit slums. One dot is a little spending money here and there. Two is a comfortable, middle class wage. Three is a nicer, upper middle class life. Four is moderately wealthy. Five is filthy rich.
Every item has an Availability rating. Once per chapter, your character can procure an item at her Resources level or lower, without issue. An item one Availability above her Resources reduces her effective Resources by one dot for a full month, since she has to rapidly liquidate funds. She can procure items two Availability below her Resources without limit (within reason).
For example, a character with Resources •••• can procure as many Availability •• disposable cellphones as she needs.
Prerequisites: Dexterity •••, a Specialty in Weaponry or Brawl
Choose a Specialty in Weaponry or Brawl when you purchase this Merit. Your character’s extensive training in that particular weapon or style has allowed them to benefit more from their alacrity and agility than their strength. You may substitute your character’s Dexterity for her Strength when making rolls with that Specialty.
This Merit may be purchased multiple times to gain its benefit with multiple Specialties.
1. What is the worst thing your character has ever done?
In her early days of policing, Bel arrested someone for murder. The evidence pointed to him, enough to convince the courts, and that man suffered the punishment for it. Later, she found out that he was innocent, and if she had just looked harder, she would have seen the truth. Proving the man's innocence was harder than proving his guilt, however. Breaking Point: Making mistakes other people pay for.
2. What is the worst thing your character can imagine himself doing?
Ignoring the right thing in the name of following the rules and doing the paperwork. Breaking Point: Ignoring a genuine cry for help.
3. What is the worst thing your character can imagine someone else doing?
What's to imagine? Bel is a cop, she's seen the depths. But the worst is when people use the law to justify violence. Breaking Point: Letting a dirty cop get away with it.
4. What has your character forgotten?
Bel had a friend growing up, the very best of friends. The B-E-F-R-I to her S-T-E-N-D-S. Said friend later firsted, but also died not long after in a violent show down. Bel has repressed most of this, right down to forgetting how close they were. She struggles to remember the face than matches the name. Breaking Point: Losing someone she cares for to her own helplessness.
5. What is the most traumatic thing that has ever happened to your character?
The most traumatic thing has been a string of serious relationships that end in death notices. And too quickly. She's quick to love, but that leads a Kin into a lot of sorrow. Breaking Point: Suffering heartbreak.
Her eyes are two different colors- one blue, one green.
Aspirations
Short Term: Investigate a crime.
Short Term: Hang with the local garou.
Long Term: Find her place in one or both of her two worlds.
Background
1. What do you want to accomplish with this character?
RP, Solve Crimes, Be Useful
2. How do you see this character's arc concluding?
When she must come to choose between her two warring instincts: Law and Justice. And accept that these two are not always the same thing.
3. Does your character have any connections to PC characters? Any important relationships to note, like Allies, Contacts, or Mentors?
None.
4. What does your character do for a living? If not their occupation, what are their hobbies or passions?
She is a police officer who works homicides.
5. Has your character joined any factions? If so, what drew them there?
None
6. In the fight between Nature and Technology, where does your character lie?
She lingers between the two. She follows her fellow Heart Guardians in protecting the local places of power, even if sometimes via bureaucracy. But her work requires a dependence on tech that she is comfortable with, and would probably be a bit lost without.
7. What does your character care about above all?
Figuring out what is the Right Thing. Also, love.
8.What does your character despise above all?
Indifference.
9. How does your character feel about the supernatural?
She feels the responsibility of her tribe, but also can't help but feel like an outsider of sorts in the supernatural world. She straddles the line between them and never quite feels truly part of either.
10. Has your character had any bad experiences with the supernatural?
Oh yes. She's lost several partners to supernatural whatnot, along with her own run ins with (at least the aftermath of) creatures and figments. Plus, there's always that looming possibility of frenzy from one of the 'cousins'. Luckily, she has only witness those from a safe distance.
